Parallel Travels is a 2021 self-published project exploring the fictional hotels and cultures of a parallel universe, through a series of 20 hotel luggage labels/stickers (in the style of the richly-illustrated luggage labels that hotels used to commission and apply to their guests’ luggage) and an accompanying 48-page hotel guide. The project is a celebration of illustration’s golden age and the anonymous artists who contributed to it, as well as a broader interrogation of illustration as a medium as it relates to truth and text: unlike conventional commissioned illustration, which follows text/a written brief, these often-absurd illustrations were born as imagery, then rationalised into the “hotel reviews”.
